"In my Cape Town studio, I engage in my daily alchemy, turning a remarkable array of materials into captivating works of art. My painting approach draws inspiration from textures found both in nature and man-made environments, such as tree bark, earth, road surfaces, grass and plastered walls, coral and the ocean. The subject of my art is drawn from landscapes and dwellings, with a particular fascination for its rustic colour palette. I like to refer to my artistic technique as 'dimensional'. On canvas, I create my paste and meticulously apply textures in a specific sequence using a palette knife. The entire day is dedicated to letting these textures thoroughly dry. From there the intended colours are applied using acrylic paint which leads to an interconnected composition that is distinctive and reflective of individualism. In my perspective, the art world resembles a vast jigsaw puzzle, where the key is to connect those who possess something with those who desire it. My objective is to extend my reach through my painting technique and captivating scenes." - Patrick Rapai
