Lulu Luvski
'Lulu Luvski is a pseudonymous South African- based visual artist specializing in painting and sculpture.
Active since 2023, his whimsical and satirical works have been described as “pop-art, but with a sloppier and more hand-made feel”. He refers to his work as “absurdist-illustrations”. Or “slop-art”.
Luvski’s preferred method of painting on Plexiglas in reverse, and his exclusive use of flat colours combined with simple childlike drawing gives his paintings a screen-printed look.
His sculptures are made from wax-based clay/ air-dry clay and are then moulded and cast in either resin or bronze.
His art making philosophy is simple: life writes and he illustrates. Part spy/observer, part artist, he insists that his art “happens to him”. Seemingly insignificant events are celebrated by ending up in his paintings and sculptures.
“The initial idea-spark is everything, and needs to be captured and served up as fresh as possible. Subsequent over-thinking, re-drawing and tweaking just tends to water it down and fizzles it out”.
His favourite place is balancing right on the edge of life’s endless but beautiful absurdities, where things could either tip over into a quirky sculpture or fall slap-bang into a wonky painting.
Luvski never attends the party, but still paints it.' - Lulu Luvski
