These seemingly disparate art styles speak across the divide of my paintings; While the top half features a specific landscape I've visited, the bottom half is an abstract, two-dimensional representation that invites the viewer to contemplate its meaning… Is it a glimpse into the earth's depths, or purely abstract? Colour plays a vital role in my work, as the landscapes of northern South Africa are characterized by vibrant hues, dramatic contrasts, and intense colour palettes. For me, colour is an essential means of communication, informing emotions and expanding on conceptual ideas." - Jaco Roux Orpen Dam KNP II Jaco Roux Oil on Canvas 45 x 45 x 3,5cm R22,000 Orpen Dam KNP I Jaco Roux Oil on Canvas 45 x 45 x 3,5cm R22,000

INTERESTED IN THIS ARTIST'S WORK? CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US: Mail Peter van Straten Prints “Nothing ruins a grandiose sense of self like a hyperactive sense of irony. I am prevented therefore from uttering with any seriousness an ambition that is non-the-less heartfelt: to celebrate, with a single iconic image, each uniquely intriguing facet of human existence. This task would of course take many lifetimes, and while I might conceivably have many lives it is doubtful whether I would remember my task from one life to the next; becoming instead the postmaster at Wellington, then a bureaucrat in Bangladesh, followed by a housewife in Durban – each without the slightest interest in illustrating the human condition. For this reason, I am driven by a deep sense of urgency in this lifetime – straining against the undertow of time to expand my understanding of the light bulb moments I am determined to illustrate. Luckily for me I find the story of Sisyphus more amusing than tragic, and my favourite word in the English language is Nympholepsy, which, to paraphrase the Oxford dictionary, is ecstasy or madness caused by pursuit of the unattainable. If anything, it is reassuring to know that one’s journeying will never be threatened by something as crass as destination, and it is pure bliss to paint that journey.” - Peter van Straten Feeding the Real Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Downloading Grace Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The Bull and the Ballerina Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Ana's Dream Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 What isn't Hidden Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The Two Bells Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Thrill of Faith Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Boat Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The Young Gardener Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The Sancutuary of Self Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Faith in Transformation Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The Switch Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The burden of home Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The Journey Home Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The greatest friendship Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Rorschach's milk Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The river of life Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Light Matter Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Bursting into Birds Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Risk is the currency of love Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Love in the Reward Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Ode to the individual Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Ontplofkop Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 Oasis - Return to self Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3 The self in pursuit of self Peter van Straten Limited-Edition High-Quality Print Large: R3,850 Format between A1 - A2 Medium: R2,850 Format between A2 - A3
- Johan Alberts | INK BOX ART
INTERESTED IN THIS ARTIST'S WORK? CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US: Mail Johan Alberts "In my recent collection of acrylic and oil paintings – entitled HOMOGENISE – I consciously shine a spotlight on prejudices and promote unity by altering and reworking familiar and famous artworks. My significant twist is the way in which I add an African narrative into the mostly Eurocentric imagery. I feel my current work speaks to a global audience through its sense of nostalgia. People immediately recognise the original artwork and then do a double-take on it. “What the heck is going on here?”. I hope to communicate more universally relevant characteristics with my art. Those things that are present in everyone – however they identify, wherever they call home, whatever life looks like. By splicing apart two seemingly diverse worlds and uniting them on canvas, I pay homage to our gorgeous similarities. And hope to communicate this: don’t we look even more beautiful together than apart? I feel that people are too quick to focus on the differences – the distortion – between one another. Out of a sense of fear, they reach for what is theirs and hold it close, defining anything that doesn’t fit within their tight parameters as different and in turn, a threat. After all, the existence of differences within society is driven and empowered by cultural and artistic narratives. As an artist, I have the power (and responsibility) to inform these narratives, alter them as I see fit, and do it through beauty and colour. I do this by taking what is known and accepted and overturning it by introducing cultural narratives that have been overlooked for far too long. How do our similarities AND differences – ethnically, culturally, religiously, etc – enhance and empower our lives? Through my art, I use emancipation, strength, immortality, beauty, and the acceptance of pain as a natural part of life as my guides. All with the intention and ultimate goal of inclusion. For as long as I can remember, the main aim of my art is to offer a visually pleasing respite from the dull doldrums of the everyday. I want to add beauty to the world, and offer people an opportunity to dwell within a colourful, hopeful space as they consume my art. From a more societal and political perspective, I set out to communicate how our differences – be they ethnic, cultural, religious, gender, etc – are also gateways to our similarities. My art is an invitation towards inclusion. INTERESTED IN THIS ARTIST'S WORK? CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US: Mail Matthew Blackburn Matthew Blackburn is constantly challenging himself to recreate different materials and textures on a 2D surface, as well as capturing different scenes by playing with contrast, shadows and reflections. Majority of his works are presented in a still life format; however portraiture is his main passion. His medium of choice is acrylic paint; over the years he has made himself familiar with this medium and used this fast-drying paint to his advantage. His paintings consist of multiple layers with extreme detail and minimal brush marks, often ending up with a photo-like finish. Blackburn gets a lot of inspiration from people around him, movies/series, and nature, with his current body of work created around diversity in South Africa.
