INTERESTED IN THIS ARTIST'S WORK? CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US: Mail Catherine Ocholla Catherine Ocholla is an oil painter based in Cape Town, specialising in skyscapes and landscapes. "My hope is that there is an emotional connection, that in turn makes people ‘think’ the next time they look up. We mostly pay attention when the sky is putting on a show – spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Yet it is omnipresent, and we are completely dependent on it for our survival." "My current work is centred around the Anthropocene epoch – we, human beings, have become the driving force, the change makers in nature. Other terms are the Capitalocene, where capitalism is the entity that is shaping nature, and Plasticene, the effects of plastic in shaping our natural environment" "I am an African voice that indulges in speculative fiction, and in adding narratives and conversations to the Anthropocene debate where I feel we are underrepresented. I hope more will participate—in reflection and/or in action—in trying to not let those speculative future catastrophic events that we are so familiar with, become our present." • John Bauer | INK BOX ART

INTERESTED IN THIS ARTIST'S WORK? CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US: Mail John Bauer John Bauer is a well-known ceramic artist and materials engineer, using Tsung Dynasty techniques, the images on his work rise above the surface of the clay. They are not negative impressions, but positive ‘expressions’ from the clay’s surface. He perfectly reproduces in porcelain the trappings of a past age, where skill and craftsmanship were an artist’s primary concern. By appropriating rare coins, carvings, lace and organic substances he not only references the technologies of the past but archives them for the future. John Bauer pushes the limits of what is technically possible in ceramics. A sentimentalist, he salvages antique crochet cloth, linens and lace and makes these materials immortal by recreating them, stitch by stitch, in porcelain. He is able to enlarge them to gigantic proportions or offers them in an extreme diminutive form. There is always a surprise factor in his work. It is full of light and translucency. Love is a central theme in Bauer’s work. He sometimes uses the inspiration of netsuke, old coins, flowers, found objects and dolls to embellish his work. His signature bowls carry his artwork of mythical creatures and angels whispering words of wisdom and love. John Bauer is one of those individuals for whom ceramics is a mere vehicle for the kaleidoscope of ideas he exhales everyday. He is strangely focused on a bizarre and very secretive brand of technical skill in ceramics; although this focus on technical anomalies of clay, glass and heat, does not distract one iota from the heart of his pieces. His work exudes emotion. Bauer has evolved from sculpture to very thin translucent bowls: embellished, in both relief and scrafico. Bauer's experiments with glass and clay are notable in this brief window of this ceramic artist's evolution: glass filled bowls which, when held up to the light reveal their secrets. My process is intuitive, there is no plan just being present in feeling and allowing themes to rise to the surface, adding and taking away layers and using what’s available in the moment. It reflects my own inner journey over the past few years but is also a reflection of the issues we face in our outer world and challenges of our current times. Working past the edge of the canvas was a way of exploring more than one point of view as a way of finding understanding and reflexive compromise. INTERESTED IN THIS ARTIST'S WORK? CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US: Mail Belinda Ross "Painting has been an intrinsic part of my life for many years. It is how I connect with the world, it’s where I find my freedom. My travels have taken me across Africa, residing in Zambia, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Cameroon While I often visit my three daughters abroad, I currently call Johannesburg my home. My connection to the glorious Eastern Cape runs deep, and through my art I search to translate the inner peace I experienced as a child walking on the farm. I am completely absorbed by the timelessness of the landscape around us. I paint intuitively, beginning the process by spending time in situ, sketches and gathering information. Sometimes collecting twigs or grasses to use as painting tools. When I am back in the studio I reflect on what I experienced and what I would like to express. My work is joyous and colorful, and I invite viewers to immerse themselves in my imaginative landscapes. My artistic journey is a constant quest for inspiration, pushing the boundaries of my craft to create pieces that resonate with authenticity and speak to my soul." - Belinda Ross Joy is not made to be a crumb Belinda Ross Oil on linen Canvas 65 x 120cm R12,000 Stillness and Time Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas Board 48.5x 48.5cm SOLD Boundless Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas Board 48.5x 48.5cm SOLD Renewal Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas Board 48.5x 48.5cm SOLD Encapsulations #4836 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4820 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4825 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4814 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4843 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4818 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4821 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4827 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4834 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4832 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4846 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4849 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Encapsulations #4807 Belinda Ross Oil on Canvas 15 x 15cm SOLD Crossing Fields Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD Looping it's way Skyward Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD This Soft World Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD Welcome Shines Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD The Opportunities Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD A Little Time Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD With Arms Open Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD Fields of Golden Belinda Ross Acrylic on Wood Panel 30 x 30cm SOLD

Her sculptures are about the transformative power of vulnerability. They are invitations to be brave enough to take risks and be true to yourself. Landia’s sculptures celebrate naivety and playfulness in the midst of complexity and adversity. The sculptures encourage the viewer to forge an authentic individual identity in defiance of society’s tidy labels and categories. Her current body of work is about having the courage to embrace raw human emotions. • Johan Alberts Prints | INK BOX ART

INTERESTED IN THIS ARTIST'S WORK? CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US: Mail Johan Alberts Prints "In my recent collection of acrylic and oil paintings – entitled HOMOGENISE – I consciously shine a spotlight on prejudices and promote unity by altering and reworking familiar and famous artworks. My significant twist is the way in which I add an African narrative into the mostly Eurocentric imagery. I feel my current work speaks to a global audience through its sense of nostalgia. People immediately recognise the original artwork and then do a double-take on it. “What the heck is going on here?”. I hope to communicate more universally relevant characteristics with my art. Those things that are present in everyone – however they identify, wherever they call home, whatever life looks like. By splicing apart two seemingly diverse worlds and uniting them on canvas, I pay homage to our gorgeous similarities. And hope to communicate this: don’t we look even more beautiful together than apart? I feel that people are too quick to focus on the differences – the distortion – between one another. Out of a sense of fear, they reach for what is theirs and hold it close, defining anything that doesn’t fit within their tight parameters as different and in turn, a threat. After all, the existence of differences within society is driven and empowered by cultural and artistic narratives. As an artist, I have the power (and responsibility) to inform these narratives, alter them as I see fit, and do it through beauty and colour. I do this by taking what is known and accepted and overturning it by introducing cultural narratives that have been overlooked for far too long. How do our similarities AND differences – ethnically, culturally, religiously, etc – enhance and empower our lives? Through my art, I use emancipation, strength, immortality, beauty, and the acceptance of pain as a natural part of life as my guides. All with the intention and ultimate goal of inclusion. For as long as I can remember, the main aim of my art is to offer a visually pleasing respite from the dull doldrums of the everyday. I want to add beauty to the world, and offer people an opportunity to dwell within a colourful, hopeful space as they consume my art. From a more societal and political perspective, I set out to communicate how our differences – be they ethnic, cultural, religious, gender, etc – are also gateways to our similarities. My art is an invitation towards inclusion.
